Whether trying to achieve LEED resiliency credits or just smart planning, we help implement strategies so our client organizations and their facilities can easily adapt to changing conditions, maintain functionality during severe weather events, and bounce back quicker after utility interruptions.

"The contractor performed the contract in a cost effective and timely manner. They prepared an energy audit data base that is utilized to make energy efficient decisions on federally owned facilities… I would recommend them for similar requirements in the future.”
- Todd Michael, Federal Government Assessment Official, United State Forest Service Energy Audits
Ambient Energy works with building owners and facility managers to help achieve each organization’s unique sustainability goals for the ongoing operation of existing facilities. From tracking and benchmarking your building’s energy and water to official building certification and everything in between, Ambient Energy is ready to help your team:
- Improve the overall performance of your building
- Achieve specific financial goals (short and long term operational cost savings, return on investment, overall value of your property assets, etc.)
- Increase worker productivity, health, and well-being
- Achieve third party certification through various green building rating systems and standards
Ambient Energy’s Sustainability Team is well versed in numerous rating system requirements and ideal strategies to help our clients achieve their green building certification goals for existing buildings. We work with owners to ensure the most sustainable and cost-effective sustainable strategies are implemented to attain certification using the most appropriate rating system for each individual project. Specific rating systems we use regularly to meet client goals for existing buildings include:
- Federal Guiding Principles for Existing Buildings
- LEED Dynamic Plaque Certification
- LEED-EB:O&M: Certification and Re-Certification
- Living Building Challenge Certification Facilitation
- WELL Building Standard Certification Facilitation
Ambient Energy’s Sustainability Team and Commissioning Engineers provide indoor air quality testing services to achieve LEED or LEED Dynamic Plaque certification requirements. Our professional IAQ consultants use the most up-to-date testing equipment and tried and true laboratories for our IAQ tests, thereby providing our clients with the most useful information regarding their indoor air quality, baseline parameters, and options to improve current conditions.
Occupant engagement campaigns are designed to reinforce existing efforts and change behaviors of building users to reduce energy, water, and waste and to increase waste diversion through recycling. An occupant engagement campaign will help your organization reduce its environmental footprint, save financial resources, and for government facilities, meet Federal and State mandates for energy, water, and waste reduction and increased recycling.
Existing Building Commissioning can help reduce operations costs and increase net operating income. Ambient Energy’s commissioning team can help your facility’s operations team improve and optimize overall building performance through a detailed assessment of the HVAC and lighting systems. Our process can often identify problems that have developed throughout the building’s life, and cost-effective measures to reduce energy use and costs. We work diligently with the owner and their operations team to help address these operations and controls issues, and implement energy saving measures.
Ambient Energy works with clients to track and report controls systems issues by monitoring the BAS trend data with SkySpark software. SkySpark is an analytic software package that allows us to analyze the trend data from the building automation system. Ambient Energy develops specific ‘rules’ that are unique for the project. The ‘rules’ monitor the key energy use parameters for the project. The analysis of trend data helps to understand the building operations and determine when the system is not operating within the design parameters. When systems are not within the design parameters, they increase operating costs because of increased energy consumption. When operating parameters are not within the intended design and operating parameters, we notify the O&M staff and assist with resolving the issues. All parties will be able to clearly see the duration of issues and historical trend logs so they can understand the root cause of the issue, fix the issue, and keep the building operating as intended.
Ambient Energy conducts technical energy audits using the established ASHRAE guidelines. Our audit process and results will help your team understand opportunities for cost savings, improved occupant comfort, improved environmental performance and will help you develop the necessary capital plans needed to implement findings.
As the old adage goes, “You can’t manage what you can’t measure.” Ambient Energy can help you track and measure a single building or your entire portfolio’s energy and water use and greenhouse gas emissions. Forty percent of all existing buildings in the U.S. have already started tracking utility data using ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager, making it clearly the industry standard for tracking and measurement of utility data. Ambient Energy’s experience with Portfolio Manager’s interface allows your team to focus on building operations while we provide you the answers you need to make smart decisions about energy and water use.
The HVAC system of a building is only as good as the envelope that surrounds it. If the building is leaking or is not adequately insulated, the HVAC system works harder and increases energy use. In addition, indoor comfort levels and environmental air quality may not be achieved. Thermography in combination with Bower Door Testing helps to document and understand that the envelope of the building has been installed as intended and meets the design performance criteria.
